MLADEN ANTONOV Editor-in-chief AFP Photo, USA - jury 2010, 2011

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria. Educated at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia. Between 1990 and 1991 he photographed the fall of the communist regime in Bulgaria for Reuters. 1991-2002, as a photojournalist for EPA, he covered the war in Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia, political changes in Moscow and Tbilisi, the crisis in Kosovo and was EPA’s chief reporter in Russia. 2002-2007 was AFPs chief reporter for Europe, Africa and countries of the former Soviet Union. In 2007-2010 he was chief editor at AFPs photo department in Paris and since 2011 editor-in-chief at AFP Photo in Washington.

WALTER BERGMOSER pedagogue, curator, Germany - jury 2011

Born in Augsburg, Germany. Graduated in design from the Fachhochschule in Augsburg and the Faculty of Art and Design at Kassel University. Also studied design in the USA. In 1995 he was professor of photography at FAMU in Prague, in 2000 professor of photography at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, in 2001 professor of photography and the new media at University of Ilmenau in Germany and at Erfurt University, 2003 professor of photography at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Finland, 2008-2010 professor of photography at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, South Korea, 2011 professor of photography at various German universities. He lectures at universities around the world, organises exhibitions, creates performances, videos, films and articles for art magazines. He has participated in many art exhibitions worldwide.

CELINA DUNLOP picture editor, online video producer, The Economist, Great Britain - jury 2011

Born in the United Kingdom. Appointed picture editor of The Economist in 1990 with responsibility for photo content in all media. She was a jury member for This Working Life 2007 and has been on several panels discussing a variety of photo industry issues. She guest lectures on photographic copyright, and tutored the LSP course in picture research for many years. In 2008 her documentary on the My Lai massacre won FPA radio story of the year and BBC best radio journalism. Her online videos showcase world-class photojournalism on a wide range of topics including life behind the Berlin Wall and Afghanistan’s child brides.

TOMASZ GUDZOWATY photographer, Poland - jury 2011

Born in Poland. Graduated in Law at Warsaw University but his biggest interest was always photography, especially humanistic and classical black and white photography. He was a social documentary photographer for many years but in lately got interested in documenting non-commercial sports that are not in the media’s interest – they are atypical, exotic and outside the main sphere popularity. He publishes in Max Magazine, L’Equipe, The Guardian, Newsweek, Time, Forbes, British Journal of Photography and others. He has published several photographic books and is a winner of several international competitions – World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year, NPPA Best Journalism. He works with Focus photo agency in Hamburg and Yours Gallery in Warsaw.

YONG-HWAN LEE pedagogue Chung-Ang University, South Korea - jury 2011

Born in South Korea. He studied photography and video at Chung-Ang University in Seoul and graduated in visual communication and multimedia at Ohio University, USA in 2002. 1992-2000 was Director of Seojin Gallery and Goto Gallery, South Korea. 1991-2004 professor of photography and video production at Kyungil University, South Korea. Currently professor at the school of photography at Chung-Ang University, president of the Association of Korean Photographers, adviser to the Sam-Sung Digital Imaging Corporation and Director of the Daegu Photo Biennale.

PETR JOSEK photographer Reuters, Czech Republic) - jury 2011

Born in Brno, Czech Republic. He arrived at the photographic profession through various jobs – camera, film and television production assistant, lab technician and a photo reporter for the Czech Press Agency CTK. Reuters photographer since 1990 when he photographed the dramatic events in Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, the Baltic states, Albania, the two coups in Russia and life in Iraq immediately after the downfall of the Saddam regime. He is a recipient of several journalistic awards, among them for his famous Photograph of the Year from the Czech Press Photo competition in 1997.

PÉTER KORNISS photographer, curator, Hungary - jury 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011

Born in Koloszvar, Romania, but has lived in Hungary since early childhood. Graduated in law from Budapest University. As a photographer he spent forty years recording the disappearing way of life and culture in Hungarian villages. In the 1970s he photographed over a ten year period the life of a peasant working as a town labourer. An author of many photographic books – the best known are Heaven Bridegroom (1975), Passing Times (1979), The Guest Worker (1988), Inventory – Pictures from Transylvania (1998) and Attachment (2000). He is a member of the International Advisory Committee of the W. Eugene Smith Grant (USA), Member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts since 1999, founding member of the Sony World Photographic Academy (UK) since 2007. He is the only international permanent member of Czech Press Photo international juries.

MARIAN PAUER pedagogue, publicist, curator, Slovakia - jury 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011

Born in Trencin. Graduated in journalism from the Komensky University in Bratislava. Started his professional career as camera assistant at Czechoslovak Television in Bratislava. Started working as a journalist in 1972 –was editor-in-chief of the photo department at the Czech Press Agency, editor-in-chief of Praca newspaper and later of WATT-Foto-Video magazine. Worked with the Japanese press agency Kyodo News. Since 2007 Director of Media Institute at the Faculty of Media Studies in Bratislava (now the Paneuropean University). He is an author and co-author of over twenty books on photography, curator of 200 exhibition at home and abroad, the Egon Erwin Kisch Prize laureate, recipient of many awards, member of many international juries.

Born in Zilina, Slovakia. Graduated from the School of Graphic Arts in Prague and the Folkwang Schule in Essen, specialising in photography and design. Emigrated to Germany in 1968. Worked for Stern, Geo, Der Spiegel as a photographer and was a correspondent of Geo Magazine in Moscow. Founding member of the Bilderberg picture agency in Hamburg. Has lived in Prague since 1989. Chairman of Czech Press Photo international juries.

TSVETAN TOMCHEV photographer, pedagogue, director of the Bulgarian Press Photo competition, Bulgaria - jury 2010, 2011

Born in Bulgaria, graduated in photography from Sofia University. Editor and reporter for various Bulgarian daily and weekly newspapers; last time special correspondent of the daily Trud in Chechnya, Iraq and other war-torn territories. An author of TV documentaries, curator of photographic exhibitions and a recipient of many Bulgarian press awards. Since 2002 he has been Chairman of Bulgarian Press Photo and organiser of national competitions and Bulgarian Press Photo exhibitions and since 2009 lecturer in photojournalism at Sofia Art College.

SILVIA OMEDES ALEGRE curator, educationalist, publicist, founder and director of Photographic Social Vision foundation, Spain - jury 2011

Born in Spain, she lives and works in Barcelona. She graduated from the New School for Social Studies in New York in documentary photography and film production. She started her professional career working in art galleries in Spain and as an assistant curator in the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Since 2001 she has worked as an assistant coordinator at the Centre for Contemporary Culture in Barcelona. She is also an independent exhibition curator in Spain and an editor at Blume book publishes and has collaborated as an external editor for Ojodepez photography magazine. She lectures on documentary photography at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the Superior Institute of Design and Image (IDEP), Ruido School for Photography and the World Press Photography Foundation Masterclass. She is one of the founding members and Director of the Photographic Social Vision foundation in Barcelona. It supports photojournalism through exhibitions, lectures, debates, documentary films and photography books.
